Why do Cats need to scratch?
Cats scratch to shed the outer layers of their claws and to exercise the scent glands between their toes. Cats need an outlet to scratch, so providing your cat with a post saves your furniture, drapery and other carpeting from destruction.
Why Sisal?
Cat Post Direct's Cat Products are 100% authentic woven sisal (not a sisal blend with other fiber). Cats prefer woven sisal over sisal rope because their claws do not get caught in the sisal like sisal rope. Sisal is a natural fiber derived from the 'agave sisalana' cactus plant. Sisal grows in semi-arid regions. The largest producers of sisal are located in northeast Brazil and Africa. Sisal fibers (which can be up to three feet long) are sustainably harvested by hand from the leaves of the cactus plant. Sisal is not the same fiber as coir or jute. Sisal is stronger and more durable than other natural fibers. Sisal is therefore preferred for carpet and rugs.
What is Catnip?
Catnip is an herb that has a euphoric affect on cats. Cats will roll around, and play with anything that is in contact with Catnip. Cats will then associate their “good feeling” with the object and return again and again to that object.
